SUPER SAMBA WEEKEND

Now in its sixth year, the Super Samba Weekend event is once again taking over Salo!

Super Samba Weekend is a cultural event taking place in Salo, Finland, from October 2nd to 5th, 2025. The event includes paid samba workshops for dancers and drummers, as well as free public events open to everyone.

Expect a heartful celebration full of dancing, drumming, and singing!

Our main dance instructors for 2025 are Brazilian dancer Irineu Nogueira (BR) and the Samba Queen Finland winning trio Maiju Virtala, Sara Echahid, and Veera Virta. The bateria (drum section) will be led by Marcus Vinicius Sherman (BR), known from the legendary Rio De Janero's samba schools Mangueira and Portela.

The beginner bateria and samba-reggae percussion group will be led by Sami "Samigo" Kontola, and beginner cavaquinho classes will be taught by Kaitsu "Cavaquinho" Askolin and Diego Piazza (BRA/SWE). Forró-percussion workshop will be taught by Eduardo Maia Paiva (BR).

Held at Restaurant Musine and Bar Bizarre, this year's performers include:
Gustavo Holanda (BR), Raphael Garrido (BR), Elina Kardén MPB Express, Papagode, Mirkka & Forró Friends, Samba De Aurora, ZiriguiDub feat. Duo Rio, Midnight Samba Bateria Show with Samba Queen Finland dancers, Passistas Masculinos and DJ Klaus Wing.

With the SSW 2025 Festival Pass, you'll get access to the full Super Samba Weekend program (Oct 2–5, 2025), including dance and percussion workshops and unforgettable live performances at evening parties. Carnival Samba Percussion Group and Samba Dancers' Rehearsal

Free event open to everyone! Come and watch the rehearsal of a Brazilian carnival samba percussion group and dancers at Hermanni School sports hall on Sat 4.10 at 18:00–18:45. Doors open from 17:30.

Brazilian Music by Gustavo Holanda & Elina Kardén Duo

Brazil and Finland meet when Gustavo Holanda and Elina Kardén perform gems of Brazilian music from bossa nova to samba, in Portuguese and with their own Finnish versions.

As an evolutionary leap, Super Samba Weekend is not only a samba camp but also a communal mini-festival. As in previous years, the aim of SSW is to create a setting for experiential learning in the company and guidance of world-renowned instructors, while collectively enjoying Afro-Brazilian culture in all its richness.

SSW 2025 TEACHERS

M.V. Sherman

Marcus Vinicius Sherman comes from Mangueira, Rio de Janeiro, and has had a long career as a highly regarded samba musician and instructor of Brazilian music. He has been a trusted tamborim player in the world-famous Mangueira and Portela samba schools. During Super Samba Weekend, MV Sherman aims to create a supportive environment for everyone, from beginners to more advanced participants.

Irineu Nogueira

Irineu Nogueira is an internationally renowned Brazilian choreographer, dance teacher, and cultural producer based in Munich. He is especially known for promoting samba and Afro-Brazilian culture. He has worked with samba schools at the São Paulo Carnival and founded several major events in the field, such as the International Samba Congress Europe, the Bambas Festival, and Bloco Serafina.

Irineu's background combines contemporary dance, Afro-Brazilian movement language, and a multidisciplinary approach to the performing arts. He teaches workshops and performs internationally, and also serves as the artistic director of the Praias do Isar Samba School in Munich.
